The former chief minister was addressing a meeting of office-bearers and prominent workers of the Lucknow unit of the party at his Mall Avenue residence. Singh said Urban Development Minister Azam Khan was conspiring to create a ‘mini Pakistan’ in the State at the behest of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh, for whom continuing in power was more important than the country’s unity and integrity.

Condemning Ajit Singh’s demand for a Harit Pradesh and Azam Khan’s for Muslim Pradesh, Singh said the two demands were similar in nature. Both of them wanted a separate Muslim-dominated area to create a mini-Pakistan in western Uttar Pradesh, Singh said.

He asked the workers to pull up their socks for the Vidhan Sabha and the local bodies elections which would be contested, for the first time, on party symbol.

He said that the UPA Government at the Centre and the Mulayam Government in the State had failed on all fronts and there was no control on terrorism, price-rise and everybody was living in fear.

Meanwhile, State BJP spokesman Hirdya Narain Dixit said that the Samajwadi Party and its supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav was not in favour of providing security to the Ram Janambhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.

He regretted that the State Government had not drawn up a foolproof security system for Hindu places of worship, including those in Varanasi, Mathura and Ayodhya. He alleged the move was aimed at appeasing Muslims.
