SpiceJet for near-range overseas operations

Low-cost carrier, Spice-Jet will actively consider overseas operations by May next year when the airline completes five years of domestic flying.

“We have no desire to fly to the US or the UK. We would like to draw a circle around India and see where we can go using a similar fleet,” SpiceJet chief executive officer Sanjay Aggarwal said on Wednesday.

The airline is keen to start operations to the Middle East, Sri Lanka and South East Asia.

SpiceJet is also evaluating small plane operations to tier two cities. Aggarwal said if aviation fuel prices drop by further 10 per cent airfares could drop by up to Rs 200, he said ruling out any airfare cuts in the near future.
