THE STATE Government was only interested in increasing revenue by levelling new taxes, without any thought to industries and their progress, alleged UP Udhyog Vaypar Pratinidhi Mandal president and former MP from Bilhaur Shyam Bihari Mishra.
Mishra was addressing newspersons here on Sunday, to give information about the proposed election of the Manadal and also about poor state of traders in UP. The state government has not taken any steps to improve basic infrastructure for industries in the State and neither has it provided any major tax reform for relief of traders in State, he alleged. He demanded withdrawal of tax imposed on traders in the name of State Development Tax.
Mishra expressed despair over closure of industries in the State due to poor infrastructure and prevailing security threat to industrialists and traders. He cited the example of a biscuit factory of Sri Lanka selling its product in the State, while all 11 biscuit factories of the city were on the verge of closure due to irregular supply of electricity and poor infrastructure.
Mishra said Mandal general secretary Arun Agrawal had been on tour to study the condition of traders in the eastern part of the State (Poorvanchal) and observation made by him “have increased our worries with their poor state due to negligence by the government. He gave the example of a custody death of trader Ramkhelawn Jaiswal about seven days back in Vanarasi.
The deceased trader was taken into custody for a mere Rs 14,000 unpaid tax by sales tax officials and Jaiswal died in their custody. Mishra further said the Mandal has raised its demand of Rs 10 lakh compensation for the family and also action against guilty officials. He warned if the demand was not accepted, then the general secretary would sit on protest from Febuarary 20, at Vanarasi.
Meanwhile, the election dates for the State body have been finalised. On Feb 11, nomination papers would be filed and their scrutiny would be held. It is also the date when a candidate will be permitted to withdrawal his nomination. Besides, there would be an open conference of traders to discuss the issue of trader welfare in the State said Mishra.
On Feb 12, voting would take place and after voting, a few leading traders of the State would be felicitated added he. About 4,000 representatives from all over State were likely to participate in the election and 11 Dharmshalas have been reserved to accommodate all representatives.
When asked about any change in the procedures of election, Mishra said photo identity cards were compulsory for voters and that were being issued to all.
Shailendra Sharma (Rampur), Anita Agrawal (Lucknow), Raghewandra Varshaney (Aligarh), Dharmveer Anand (Merutt), KK Diwedi (Kanpur) are the officials for the proposed election informed Mishra.
