Some student leaders facing criminal charges alleged that the number of teachers having criminal records is increasing with every passing year. So it should be made mandatory for teachers to get police verification as well.

The leaders alleged there was a teacher who was involved in murderous attack on a colleague a few years back. But, there is no action against him. He has even been promoted as professor despite being booked under the under Goonda Act. Also there is a teacher who has strong linkages with an underworld don Babloo Srivastava yet varsity appointed him recently. Why have these teachers been exempted from police verification?

Student leader Vijay Kumar Singh Tintu, who himself faces several criminal charges, stated: “If LU wants to get rid of criminal elements from campus, the bosses should begin with their teachers. Some of these teachers have developed a good rapport with the teachers and could often be seen around with the V-C. These teachers should also be targeted before mooting any legal action against the student leaders who are fighting for students’ cause,” he said.

A host of other student leaders also joined Tintu. They said LU V-C must first identify those teachers and keep them at distance rather than harassing the student leaders. “Some of these teachers with criminal antecedent are involved in the decision making policies and were also given important posts like assistant proctor and is even heading a department,” said another leader.

On the other hand, common students of the LU questioned the varsity administration what action it would intend to take against student leaders like Bajrangi Singh Bajju, Vijay Kumar Singh Tintu, Shiv Bhushan Singh who face criminal charges like 307 of IPC. Other student leaders having criminal record include Pawan Pandey, Saket Singh Sonu, Harendra Bahadur and many others.

But LU is silent as to what action is being mooted against them.
