Telengana triumph stokes Gorkhaland fire
Within hours of the Congress Working Committee nod for Telengana, the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung stepped up their demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland, announcing an indefinite bandh in the hills from Saturday and himself resigning from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA).

Gurung sent his resignation to West Bengal governor MK Narayanan at 8 pm. He was the chief executive member of the GTA.
"The state government was regularly interfering into the functioning of the GTA. So, it was useless to continue," said Gurung explaining his resignation.
But life in the hills would come to a standstill from Saturday as a total and indefinite bandh has been called from Saturday. "We are asking all tourists and students to leave Darjelling by Friday," said Binay Tamang, assistant secretary, GJM.
The GJM president has asked all tourists to leave the hills by Friday.
The state government, centre and GJM had signed the GTA accord in July 2011 to inject a substantial degree of autonomy to the people of the hills.
The GJM central committee will mett on Wednesday mornign to decide its future course of action.
