Noted theatre artiste Rajeev Varma feels that theatre has a pertinent role to play in one’s life. It has a healthy effect on a person and the society, as most of the themes have a strong bonding with the real life events.
He said that Bhopal was most active in the field of theatre in the country. On the other hand in Mumbai and other metropolis, theatre was groomed well but was not in the form of a movement. “Theatre in Bhopal is very healthy and gives ample space to the young budding artistes,” he said.
Echoing similar views Sanjay Mehta, a theatre director, said, “The World Theatre Day started as a movement, but later on it was celebrated to give a fresh direction and meaning to life.”
Over the years Bhopal has been very active in theatre and this has been exemplified by the scale on which Theatre Day is celebrated here, Mehta said.
Theatre artist Ashok Bulani said, “Theatre is vital to make a good human being. It creates a feeling of well-being and also lifts a sagging mood.” Ashok is also firm that Bhopal has been a good platform for theatre lovers.
Rakesh Sethi of Rangadhar Natya Samaroh feels that theatre is an art closest to life. It deals with the pathos of common man and also speaks volumes against society. “No form of creative art can be so vocal about the ills prevalent in our society,” he said. Besides, theatre gives a multi-hued dimension to the facets of life, Sethi added.
