Police commandos together with Assam Rifles personnel raided some suspected areas at Lamlong in Imphal East district at around 8.25 p.M. Last night following reports that some militants were roaming in the area.
As they stepped up search operation, they were fired upon by militants, the sources said adding that two militants were killed in the ensuing encounter.
One pistol and two hand grenades along with money demand letters of militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Council were also recovered from their possession, the sources said.
In another encounter at Keirao area, one unidentified militant was also killed by police commandos in Imphal East district last night, the sources said.
One 9mm pistol along with some rounds of ammunition were recovered from the victim.
The three bodies have been sent to Regional Institute of medical Science and Hospital for post mortem.
Over 70 persons were so far killed in militancy-related incidents in Manipur this year.
