A 17-year-old girl in Orissa chopped off her tongue to appease a Hindu goddess, police said on Monday.
Sukanti Naik of Dandamukundapur village in Puri district started praying on Saturday night at a temple. She reportedly cut her tongue after spending a night at the shrine, a police official said.

Devotees found her writhing on the temple floor and took her to a hospital. The police have registered a case against the girl.
