The procession by the youth started from Buxipur. They said the Union Government should snap diplomatic ties with Denmark. Aftab Ansari, Najmul Huda, Tariq Shadab, Rashid Ansari and others demanded an apology from Danish leaders.
Meanwhile, a meeting of Muslim intellectuals and religious leaders was held here for the second successive day to chalk out a strategy for a demonstration and rally on February 25. They decided that Muslims from various parts of the district would reach Islamia College in a small procession where Pesh Imam Jama Masjid Maulana Abdul Jalil Mazahiri would address a rally.
Minority community leaders said publication of the cartoon was part of a deep-rooted conspiracy hatched by anti-Islamic forces, which had deeply hurt the feeling of Muslims.
However, he appealed to minority community members to act with restraint. He said no one should raise slogans, or pass derogatory remarks.
Members of the Purvanchal Rajya Andolan Samiti also burnt an effigy of Danish newspapers at Townhall crossing on Monday to express their anger. Resentment is brewing among minority community members over the issue. Hundreds of posters and banners have been put up at various localities and preparations are in full swing for the demonstration.
