Major changes have been introduced in the parking facilities, many routes have been diverted and extra police force has been deployed for the month-long Sheetla Mata Mela, which sees lakhs of devotees descending to the city from nearby states.
“In order to reduce the problems of commuters, over a dozen routes will be diverted. Massive jams were reported from across the city last year,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bharti Arora.
According to traffic police, the most affected spots would be Sector 5-Palam Vihar crossing, Atul Kataria Crossing, MDI Crossing (MG Road) and Signature Tower Crossing (Expressway).
Moreover, people residing in Sector 4, 5, 7, 9 and 10 would be the worst hit. According to police, Palam Vihar residents can use a longer route to avoid traffic coming from RPS school connecting Kapashera road. Devotees coming from Delhi would have two options to reach the temple. Buses can be parked from Sector 14 till Palam Vihar.
The annual mela does not just come with traffic woes, some incidents of chain snatching were also reported last year.
