Tripura on alert after malaria claims 60 lives in Assam

All precautionary measures are being taken to prevent spread of the mosquito-borne disease in the state.

Tripura government on Monday sounded an alert following malaria claimed over 60 lives in the neighbouring Assam, official sources said.

All precautionary measures are being taken to prevent spread of the mosquito-borne disease in the state and a number of medical teams rushed to malaria-prone hilly and interior areas, official sources said.

Special orientation training of the junior doctors on malaria was organised at the Agartala Government Medical College to chalk out strategy to tackle the disease, the sources said.

Malaria disinfectants are being sprayed and health workers have been engaged in distributing medicines in the disease-prone areas, they said.

They also added that medicines were being distributed in the camps of paramilitary forces including BSF and Tripura State Rifles along the Indo-Bangla border.

The disease claims around 25 lives in Tripura every year.
