Former president, renowned scientist and Bharat Ratna APJ Abdul Kalam died on Monday way after suffering a cardiac arrest while delivering a lecture to students at IIM-Shillong.
Kalam, 83, who reached Shillong via Guwahati in the morning, collapsed during a lecture around 6:30 pm and rushed to the Bethany Hospital there, where he was declared dead.
Kalam was closely involved in the country's civilian space programme and military missile development efforts, earning him the sobriquet 'India's Missile Man' and 'People's President'.
Tributes for the former president poured in on Twitter as the entire nation, saddened by his death, went into mourning and eminent people, from politicians to actors, expressed their grief.
