Showing today at the LIFW, Kavita Bhartia hopes to go international with a collection that she says isn't seasonal. She has used stretch extensively to do away with the fitting problems. "I've been showing in Singapore at private shows for years now and my aspirations are to make the label global, so that women anywhere 'from Paris to Delhi' can where it. Clothes need to have a universal appeal but with an Indian soul," she says.

In her own way, Bhartia is trying to show a variety that caters to both markets with simpler silhouettes, asymmetrical embroidery placement and above all combining different fabrics.
"I have a bit of beachwear for my buyers, then there is something for the lovers of embroidery too. This year I have gone big on two things : bustiers and skirts that range from neutral shades to a burst of colours," points out Bhartia.

As Bhartia hasn't dabbled in woollen clothes, she decided to make outfits that can be worn under jackets, but added that touch of party wear using resham threadwork. "The focus is on dyeing techniques, hand embroidery and I have tried to give evening wear a new meaning and added an interesting element to by using texturing," says Bhartia.

The NIFT graduate, who is also the publisher of magazines like Elle and Elle Decor besides the bridal magazine Indiawali Brides, concludes: "The Indian fashion industry has for long inspired the West but now it's just not going to be a sourcing ground for embroidery but the entire garment that's superbly tailored and is just right for the forward thinking woman of today."'
