UP assembly adjourned sine die

Uttar Pradesh assembly was adjourned sine die on Wednesday after transacting listed business including the motion of thanks to Governor TV Rajeswar's address amidst uproar with the Samajwadi Party members continuing their protest against his calling Mulayam government unconstitutional.

As SP members continued to throng the well of the House raising slogans against Mayawati government the Speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar rushed through the listed business amidst din in the House. The Speaker said he had already given his ruling on the SP's point of order against calling of Mulayam government unconstitutional. So, the issue could not be raised in the House again, he said before adjourning the House sine die at 11.20 am.

Earlier the BJP Legislature Party leader Om Prakash Singh demanded immediate discussion on the Gorakhpur serial blasts. Singh said that the state government should place facts about the unfolding developments in Gorakhpur before the House. The Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tiwari called the blasts an attempt to vitiate the communal atmosphere. The Congress was trying to defend the government even before the state government could place facts on the floor of the House, said Singh.

The SP Deputy Leader Azam Khan and other SP MLAs, however, continued to protest against the Governor's observations about Mulayam government. The law and order had deteriorated in the past three to four days, he said. The BJP members could be seen standing by their seats while the SP members stood over the seats of the reporters and threw paper missiles towards the Speaker.

When attempts to bring the House to order failed the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Lalji Verma urged the Speaker to take up the listed business. Verma said the previous regime did not uphold high values. The dates of the meeting of the House were deferred on a number of occasions, he said adding that the SP was not serious about debating the motion of thanks. Before putting it to vote the Speaker repeatedly asked members to move amendments if any to the motion of thanks to the Governor. No amendments however moved amidst the din.
