The assembly election in Uttar Pradesh has thrown up a new winner in the form of the Samajwadi Party but new challenges too have emerged for all the parties involved in politically heavyweight state.

While shaking up the local politics, the outcome of assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, which sends 80 legislators to Lok Sabha, will find reververations in the national politics as well.

Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party could emerge as the focal point for the opposition run states which had shown their might in opposing creation of NCTC. However the challenge before Mulayam would be keep the party cadre disciplined and remove the public image of a party of goondas.

In the face of loss, Mayawati may have to completely overhaul her Bahujan Samaj Party to make up for the losses in Lok Sabha. While she could not expand her base in other states, she has lost her stronghold also. Rebuilding caste coalition, battling corruption cases and improving her image would be her challenges.

UP was high on Bhartiya Janata Party's agenda in their run up to the Lok Sabha polls. But despite their saffron agenda, which got fillip from Congress aggressive politics, party remained far behind the expectations.

The BJP is in need of a leadership at the state level and a viable issue on which it can survive.

Dismal performance of Congress in Uttar Pradesh is a bad omen for the party preparing to face 2014 elections and launch Rahul Gandhi as prime ministerial candidate.

It fears SP pursuing Muslim agenda to consolidate its Muslim vote bank. Mulayam won't need their support though UPA's dependence on him may increase as some of the allies are causing headache for the party at the centre.

Rashtriya Lok Dal will remain an ally of Congress as Ajit Singh is a minister at the Centre. Mulayam doesn't need his support. However as the alliance failed to deliver dividends, one doesn't know where Ajit would be before the 2014 polls.
