One of these leather parks will be developed in around 300 acres of land in Sandila Industrial Area of the UPSIDC in Hardoi. The second leather park will be developed in around 625 acres of land in Ramaipur area of Kanpur. UPSIDC has identified land in Kuraina Bahadur Nagar and Senpurabpara villages of Kanpur.

Gupta said the parks would be equipped with latest technology to meet the quality standards and the demands from domestic and international market. The parks would have the infrastructure to have 50% units from the small and medium scale sector, he said.

IIDC said in order to mitigate the pollution and conserve environment the parks would have facilities to treat effluents generated there. Each park would have investment of about Rs 1000 crore and create employment opportunities for nearly 10000 persons, he said.

UPSIDC managing director Manoj Singh said special purpose vehicles (SPV) would be formed to implement the mega leather cluster projects. The Centre would provide 70% funds for the projects under a scheme of the Union Government, he said.

The SPV would be a corporate body and promoted by a group of entrepreneurs willing to set up their units in the proposed leather parks, he said.
