Showing signs of considerable improvement, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday started taking his food orally, doctors attending on him said.
The veteran leader, who is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, is making continuous progress since he has been admitted on February 3 with the complaints of chest infection and later diagnosed as pneumonia.
"He is now having his food orally. His condition is stable and he is doing well," chief of Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Sciences at AIIMS, Dr Sampath Kumar said adding that this (progress) is a good sign of improvement for the former Prime Minster.
Vajpayee was being fed through the pipe since his admission here.
The 84-year-old leader has also undergone tracheotomy, on February 13, to ease the respiration process and avoid any infection.
"It is a medical rule that tracheotomy tube is kept for three weeks. He is able to sit and someone reads him out the newspapers. He also listens to old film music and watches television as well," the doctor said.
