The Western Railway has finalised plans to install portable vapour explosive detectors at five railway stations within the next two months, reports Rajendra Aklekar.

Vapour explosive devices are gadgets that detect traces of vapor or heat emitting from a substance and can easily track down explosives as most of them emit either heat or vapour.

Western Railway General Manager AK Jhingron said the railways were in various stages of procuring equipment such close-circuit cameras and luggage X-ray machines recommended for security, but admitted that a 100 per cent check on passengers was not practically possible like that at airports.

"We have installed CCTVs at nine stations and X-ray machines at Bandra Terminus and Mumbai Central stations," he said.

Jhingron said besides giving out compensation, the WR social service wing will fund the fitting of an artificial limb for one the blasts victims.
