The KZF issued a clarification and sought “forgiveness” from the Bhagat Ravidas followers — known as Ravidassis — and the Sikh Panth for the incident.

Sant Rama Nand, a religious leader of the Ravidassi sect, was shot during a clash at the at the Guru Ravidass Gurdwara in Vienna. He later died in hospital. Sant Niranjan Das, another senior leader of the sect, was injured in the clash.

To clarify its position the KZF issued a press release on its letterhead, signed by the KZF chief Ranjit Singh Jammu, which said that no pro-Khalistan outfit could stoop as low as opening fire in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib.

Toeing the volatile Babbar Khalsa International’s (BKI) example, KFZ strongly condemned the incident.

The KZF also claimed that its name was wrongly linked to the incident.

With one or two pro-Khalistan outfits justifying the occurrence and all others condemning it, the Vienna incident had caused polarisation among Sikh militant outfits in India and abroad.

Like BKI, KZF also opted to blame the Indian intelligence agencies. KZF termed it yet another move to defame the movement for Khalistan — a separate Sikh homeland.

Going a step ahead KZF alleged that Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was involved in the attacks.

“All the saints who’s Bani is incorporated in Guru Granth Sahib, are respected Gurus for all of us,” the statement said.

Jammu said that Ravidasias were being misled by using KZF’s name. “Nevertheless, we seek forgiveness from the Ravidasias and for that matter whole of Panth with folded hands,” the statement added.
