In the wake of Hindustan Times highlighting the deteriorating condition of civic amenities in Sector 45 on February 27, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) finally decided to catch stray pigs from the area. The population of pigs has risen in the area and the present number is tagged at 700.
On Wednesday, an MCG team captured seven pigs. However, the drive was abandoned after residents of Jharsa and Gurgaon villages intervened.
The villagers herded their pigs as MCG officials watched like mute spectators. Following this, the team left the spot.
Irked over this, the councillor of ward number 30 submitted a written complaint to the police department.
"The residents approached me with the problem and mentioned about the news item carried in Hindustan Times. We asked the authorities to initiate a campaign from Sector 45. The MCG sent about 15 people along with two police constables to catch pigs. However, the villagers halted the drive," said Nisha Singh, councillor of ward number 30.
Sudhir Rajpal, MCG commissioner, said, "I will check and if the MCG team does not perform its duty well, departmental action will be taken."
The MCG has initiated a new campaign and opened a piggery at Kherki Majra, sources said.
The sector is facing acute problem of pigs and residents have urged authorities to look into the matter.
