Monica Bedi's villagers are not interested in her arrival barring the few Outdoor Broadcasting vans outside the house of her aunt Kanta Bedi, reports Manpreet Randhawa.

Not Surprising that after spending five years behind bars in Portugal and India, Monica Bedi says she hates the mention of Abu Salem. Asked about the don and her association with him, she told local journalists here on Thursday that she was trying hard to forget her past.

“I do not want to talk or even think about it. I want to focus on my present as well as my future life”, was all Monica said.

But the past did matter to the residents of her native village. Not many seemed interested in her arrival barring the few Outdoor Broadcasting vans outside the house of her aunt Kanta Bedi.

“I do not know why people are so interested in her. She has neither been an achiever nor a celebrated film star. I wonder how her association with Abu Salem and subsequent imprisonment is evoking so much interest among the people,” said a retired doctor Tehal Singh.

A few onlookers trickled in for a look, but her family members told them she would be sleeping till late. Narinder Kaur, Monica’s neighbour, was one of those charmed by her looks.

“Just look at the glow on her face. I wonder how she could maintain such good health and figure despite the constant tension and stress. She is a brave girl,” she said.

At about 12.30 pm she went to the Harian Bela Gurudwara with her father Dr. Prem Kumar Bedi, uncle Parshotam Bedi and aunt Kanta Bedi.

“My parents promised to pay a visit here if I was released from jail,” Monica told reporters. Asked if her parents had no problems with her working in the movies, Monica said she had not found time to discuss it with them.

Meanwhile, a Punjabi film director Manpreet Gill said he wants to restart the shooting of his movie Chan Mahi, which Monica left in between in 1997.

“We shot the movie for nearly 22 days in Hoshiarpur and Patiala when Monica suddenly disappeared. Now I am keen to restart the shooting and will probably need just 15 days to complete it. I only need her consent”, Gill said.
