Life is an amazing roller-coaster ride with various ups and downs, bends and slides, twists and turns, all unpredictable and yet exciting. You think you are going left, but it jerks you to the right. It throws inexplicable situations at you, and you take decisions at the spur of the moment. And you hold on to dear life, living it, enjoying it.

This is about that one unexpected bend in the ride that I never saw coming. After getting a 94% in my Class 10 boards, and being completely convinced by my parents and teachers that I could not opt for Humanities and let my percentage go waste, I ended up with Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Economics and English as subjects for my Class 11. I was not sure what I wanted to do in life, so I just went with the flow, never thinking much about it. But half-way into Class 11, I realised that science is not my cup of tea. No one had bothered to inform me about the huge difference between the science you study in Class 10 and the one I was studying right now. I found it extremely difficult and demanding. But my parents were sure that this was for my best. And not knowing what to do now, I decided to put in all my effort for it. But one thing I was sure of - I was not going to be an engineer in life. Theorems, numbers, machines and wires and equipments - no, it was just not me.

I was very sure of all the things I did NOT want to end up doing - Engineering, Medicine, Teaching, the list was long. So when my friend told me about CLAT (Common Law Admission Test), I thought 'hmm... Law sounds like an interesting option.' That was when I walked up to my dad and we made a deal. If I stick to science and get him a good board result and in return, I would not be giving any engineering entrances at all. I joined a coaching for my CLAT. But even then, Law was not MY option. I was never sure what I wanted to do in life. I just stuck to not doing the things I did not like, and that left me with very little choice. So in the end, I gave entrances for Law, for Fashion Studies and for English Honours in Delhi University. It was a crazy time! The forms, the written exams, interviews, in-situation tests, etc. And thankfully, I made it to good colleges in all the three areas.

But since the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata, was amongst the top law universities in the country, and law being a professional degree, it was decided that law was going to be my future career.

It was only once I landed up at NUJS that I fell in love with Law. In that way, I have been lucky. I found a career option that I not just liked, but fell in love with. The cases, the contracts, the bills and acts, it all fascinates me. I am in my second semester, First year, and I am absolutely enjoying being here... and these months at Law School have been phenomenal... but that story is for another time :)
