A 35-year-old woman was killed while scores of houses were gutted in fire that engulfed two villages of the district, police said today.

At least 150 houses were reduced to ashes in the fire in Chetu Ka Purva and Karsuma villages on Monday night.

Savitri, who was trying to rescue her belongings was perished in the blaze, police said.
Five fire tenders struggled for hours to control the blaze.
Around 70 houses were gutted in Chetu Ka Purva where fire in a garbage dump spread due to winds, whereas, in Karsuma village a spark from an earthen stove led to the major fire engulfing over 80 houses.
The loss of property was being estimated, police said.
