Panigrahi had proposed marriage to the girl, also a student at the same institute, but was turned down.

After being rejected, Panigrahi circulated the photographs the girl, taken in a cyber café with a web camera a few months ago, among his friends and also posted them on an adult website with her telephone number describing her as a call girl.

The boy, who earlier was also punished by the college authorities for a similar offence, has confessed to his crime, Guda said.

The police did not disclose the name of the institute or the name of the victim.
