Indore: ‘Jan Aakrosh’ restricted to one assembly constituency

A nationwide protest called by the opposition on Monday against the Centre’s move to recall high-value banknotes remained peaceful in Indore.

More than 500 Congress members took out a rally from Kushwah Nagar to Marimata square to observe ‘Jan Aakrosh Diwas’ -- a day of expressing public anger -- but it was restricted to assembly constituency number 1 in the city.

Congress Indore unit spokesperson Johar Manpurwala said the protest was successful as a large number of people along with traders participated in the rally.

On November 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes will no longer be legal tender from November 9 in a bid to tackle corruption and undeclared wealth.

Asked about why the party restricted the rally to one constituency, Congress leaders said they had already took out Jan Sangharsh Yatra on November 22 and they were going to scale up their protest in others assembly constituencies, too.

Following the instruction from the high command, Indore Congress party has taken out Jan Akrosh rally at Assembly constituency No 1 in order to scale up their protest against BJP government move.

Manpurwala told Hindustan Times that his party would continue with its protest and as a part of it “we are going to observe Black Day on Tuesday as Shivraj Singh Chouhan is celebrating 11 anniversary as the state’s chief minister. We will hold rallies across the city wearing black clothes”.

Meanwhile, the BJP’s city unit term “Jan Aakrosh Diwas” as “Congress Aakrosh Diwas”.

The Congress and other opposition parties facing lots of trouble to manage their black money, BJP city unit president Kailash Sharma told Hindustan Times.

Sharma said it was the Congress’ ‘Akrosh’ as many of its leaders amassed huge amount of unaccounted money during the UPA rule and now they were failing to hide them.

Modi insulted Indians: Vikrant Bhuria

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has insulted the country’s people as he forced them to stand in queues to withdraw their own money from banks, Congress leader Vikrant Bhuria said on Monday.

Vikrant, the son of former union minister and Congress leader Kantilal Bhuria, was addressing a protest rally against demonetisation.

Replying to the allegation, Madhya Pradesh cooperative minister and Jhabua district in-charge minister Vishwas Sarang said, “Congress leaders failed to cover-up their frustration.”
