But with majority of works lagging behind their schedule, the officials are going all out to finish the job anyhow, ignoring the qualitative checks.

Following complaints of use of sub-standard cement, bricks and sand in construction projects, divisional commissioner Ravindra Pastore visited several the spots.

In the Mangalnath Zone, he found that the Sulabh International, which was awarded the job to build some 14,000 temporary lavatories, was using low grade cement.

The commissioner pulled up the company representatives and the municipal corporation officials and warned that he would withhold the payment in such a scenario.

At Ramghat, the flooring has developed cracks at several points, prompting saints to criticise the machinery.

Raghumuni Ji of Bada Udasin Akhara said the red stones would not be able to tolerate the weight of heavy vehicles to be used by akharas on Shahi Snan days.

The commissioner said he had asked the officials to use heavy stones of minimum 4-inch height.

Newly built ghats at some points are being repaired by the water resource department after they developed cracks even before the first use.

At some places, stone particles have come up on recently constructed roads in the absence of proper quantity of bitumen.
