To prepare for the 50 million people who are expected to attend the month-long event, authorities have made high-tech arrangements, including pre-booking of spaces in any of the 12 new parking lots that are being developed.

Pilgrims can also get information about parking space availability on screens on all the six major roads approaching Ujjain.

With the number of vehicles increasing manifold in the last decade, the administration estimates that most pilgrims will drive down to the Kumbh.

Satellite towns in over 350 hectares are being developed on the outskirts of Ujjain, where parking will be provided.

Satellite towns will be set up near Indore, Dewas, Nagda, Agar, Maxi and Barnagar, at a distance from five to eight kilometers from the city.

Decisions on allowing cars into particular areas will be taken based on the traffic on a particular day during the event.

Police sources said vehicles could be allowed into parking lots near the fair including Sawarakheri, Bhookimata, Ranjeet Hanuman, Virsawarkar square, ujarkhera on normal days of the fair.

But cars may be stopped at the satellite towns or even farther away a day before and after the three shahi snans (April 22, may 9 and 21).

The fair authority contracted the work to a company to manage parking arrangements as facilities of washing or cleaning the vehicle and lockers will also be provided.

Deputy fair officer SS Rawat said parking utility has been provided on the mobile app of Simhastha and a visitor can get all information and even a booking link on his smartphone.

The parking lots will be equipped with modern techniques including a boom barrier, cameras to read vehicle number plates and bomb detection machines.

The authority has also fixed parking rates and only computerised slips will be issued so that no case of over-charging arises. For instance, pilgrims will have to pay 50 for a car or SUV.
