Karn Sharma’s best reduces Kolkata Knight Riders to lowest knockout score in IPL

Mumbai Indians – powered by Karn Sharma (4/16), Jasprit Bumrah (3/7) and Krunal Pandya (30-ball 45) – beat Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets to enter the IPL 2017 final, where they’ll face Steve Smith’s Rising Pune Supergiant. Riding on brilliant spells from Karn Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai Indians (MI) crushed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets to seal a place in the final of Indian Premier League (IPL) for the fourth time in 10 editions.

After being asked to bat, KKR got off to a worst possible start as they lost both openers Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine inside the Powerplay.

Bumrah, who hadn’t been given the new ball before this season, got rid of the danger-man Robin Uthappa cheaply. Karn then removed skipper Gautam Gambhir and Colin de Grandhomme off successive deliveries to leave Kolkata reeling at 31/5.

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishank Jaggi steadied the ship with a 56-run stand but Mitchell Johnson, who replaced the injured Mitchell McClenaghan, and Bumrah struck at the right time to dismiss Kolkata Knight Riders for 107 with seven balls remaining. Karn Sharma took four wickets while Jasprit Bumrah finished with the figures of 3/7.

In reply, Mumbai Indians lost three wickets in quick succession but Krunal Pandya’s unbeaten 30-ball 45 carried them home with more than five overs to spare.

Mumbai Indians will face Rising Pune Supergiant in the final, a team they are yet to defeat in the Indian Premier League.

4 – No. of times Mumbai Indians have booked a place in the final of IPL. They lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2010 final before becoming champions in 2013 and 2015.

4/16 – Karn Sharma’s best bowling figures in IPL. His previous best of 4/38 came against the same opposition in 2014 but he was a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) back then.

25 – Kolkata Knight Riders’ powerplay score, their lowest in the first six overs this edition. The previous lowest was 40/2 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens on April 15, 2017.

107 – KKR’s fifth lowest total in IPL. Four of their five lowest totals have come against Mumbai Indians. It was also their lowest score and fourth lowest overall in knock-out matches in IPL.

2015 – The last time KKR defeated MI in the cash-rich league. The six-wicket win at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was Mumbai Indians’ sixth successive win over Gautam Gambhir’s men.

2- No. of IPL games Yusuf Pathan has missed since being bought by KKR in 2011. The first one was against his old franchise Rajasthan Royals in 2014.
