Jugalbandi of classical Instruments and Jingle Bells impresses Anand Mahindra

Atlanta-based Ankit Patel conceptualized, created and posted the original video on YouTube. It was lated re-shared by Anand Mahindra.

Anand Mahindra, on Christmas Eve, shared an unusual rendition of Jingle Bells which quickly captured people’s attention. This rendition, created by Atlanta-based Ankit Patel, shows a jugalbandi of the Christmas song with traditional Indian instruments.

The video was originally shared on Patel’s YouTube Channel called Shehnai Guy in 2019. “This Christmas, we wanted to showcase our instruments in a fun/unique way. We hope you enjoy our cover of Jingle Bells and grow an appreciation for these traditional Indian musical instruments. We are still novices in playing these instruments and have a long journey ahead of us,” he shared alongside the clip.

Anand Mahindra re-shared the video on Twitter. “A bit contrived but still ends up making some good vibes... A good warm up for Christmas Eve,” he tweeted.

The video features five people including Shehnai-playing Patel. They others are Alpesh Tailor, Kirtan Amin, Pratik Patel, and Vikesh Thourani.

Patel told HT that he conceptualized and created the video. “It’s my passion to teach the world about Indian music and bring people together through music. Especially since Shehnai is a dying instrument. It’s in the spirit that I made this video,” he said when asked about his motivation behind the creation.

With over 58,000 views, the post has received tons of comments from people. It has also accumulated nearly 2,100 likes. People shared various comments on Mahindra’s post.

“Anand Sir, Shehenai, Sitar, Sarangi, Dhol, we Indians simply rock. No one can match our classical prowess,” wrote a Twitter user. “Awesome!! Music is the soul of every celebration, to bring in togetherness, harmony and peace, precursor to set in the spirit of joy and happiness,” said another. “Thanks a ton for the video. It strikes an instant chord with listeners,” expressed a third.
