Bank loan in pocket, Raje waives off farmers’ loan

Raje said that in the history of Rajasthan, this is the first government that has waived off crop loan up to ₹50,000, whereas the last two governments at the centre had waived off farm loans up to ₹10,000 only.

Chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Thursday launched the scheme to waive off loans of farmers form Banswara on Thursday. She distributed loan waiver certificates to farmers at a function organised at the College Ground. She said that in the history of Rajasthan, this is the first government that has waived off crop loan up to 50,000, whereas the last two governments at the centre had waived off farm loans up to 10,000 only.

Raje also distributed new loan approval certificates up to 50,000 to farmers along with loan waiver certificates of up to 50,000. On this occasion, cooperative minister Ajay Singh Kilak said that because of the vision of the chief minister, a decision such as a loan waiver could be possible. Kilak said that from June 4, loan waiver certificate distribution camps will be organised throughout the state.

Raje said in this scheme, after waiving off interest and penalty on overdue loan till September 30, 2017, of small and marginal farmers, loan up to 50,000 have been waived off from the remaining loan. Similarly, in this scheme, loans up to 50,000 have been waived off of those farmers who are not small and marginal but who have more than 2 hectares of land.

She said that those farmers who are not in a position to repay their loan, a farmer loan relief commission is being set up to provide relief. The loanee farmers can present their position before the commission and can get relief based on merit.

Chief minister said that the government is moving in the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s target of doubling farmers income and with this objective, the state government for the first time purchased crops worth 8900 crore on minimum support price. The government by the end of this year will distribute interest-free loan of 80,000 crore, which will be maximum in the country. The interest rate on loan from primary land cooperative banks has been reduced to 5.5% from 12%.

She said the BJP government in the state has given two lakh agriculture connections in four years and this year too more such connections will be given. Raje said earlier farmers used to get insurance of 50,000 on death or permanent disability under Raj Sahakar Personal Insurance Scheme, which now has been increased to 10 lakh. Similarly, the farmers used to get help on 50% damage due to natural calamity earlier, which now has been reduced to 33% crop damage and relief amount has been increased by one and a half times.

She said under loan waiver scheme, 1.09 lakh farmers in Banswara will get 250 crore loan waived off. To strengthen the irrigation system works worth 410 crore has been done in Banswara district and to strengthen canal connected with Mahi project, 165 crore will be spent. Detailed project report of 800 crore has been prepared for Kushalgarh-Sajjangarh constituency area and work will start in next two months.

On this occasion, home minister Gulab Chand Kataria, higher education minister Kiran Maheshwari, urban development minister Shrichand Kriplani and others were present.

Other announcements for Banswara include 50 units of electricity free every month for around 3 lakh BPL families in TSP and Saharia area, which will put an additional burden of 61 corre on the government; Kagdi Nullah passing from Banswara city will be developed and beautified on the lines of Dravyawati River in Jaipur and DPR will be made for this; Banswara city roads will be developed and beautified; two reverse osmosis plants will be set up for providing pure drinking water in Banswara city; 10 laboratories worth 10 crore will be made at the engineering college; 14 crore for science labs in 40 newly upgraded schools; agriculture faculty will be opened in government college and Gadi has been included in Partapur new municipality.
