Milk supply in several eastern parts of the state including Bharatpur, Dausa, Karauli, Baran, Kota and Ajmer was severely affected as thousands of Gujjars are in jail after courting arrest on October 2 to press their demand for ST status.
More than 3,000 Gujjar women led by their leader Bikram Singh Mandewar gheraoed three police stations in district Dausa.
Gujjar leader Nepal Singh Arya said, “Our youths have been protesting the ‘ill-treatment’ of members of the community by jail authorities.”
Nepal said, “Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje does not understand the language of peace. The movement might turn violent and the responsibility would rest with the government.”
“Women are being mobilised in villages to block the Jaipur-Agra NH-11 on Sunday and give a fillip to the agitation,” Arya said.
Karauli Superintendent of Police Govind Narayan said, “Protestors held a public meeting at the Devnarayan temple in Karauli town and jammed road traffic on the Mundala route.”
