Governor wishes Shinjini a speedy recovery
West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi wishes a speedy recovery to teenage dancer Shinjini Sengupta, and says he was distressed to learn of her illness.
West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi on Tuesday wished a speedy recovery to teenage dancer Shinjini Sengupta, now under treatment at Bangalore's National Institute of Mental Health And Neuro-Sciences, saying he was distressed to learn of her illness.
"I am distressed to learn of your illness. Whatever be its cause, I am confident that you will recover and pursue your artistic interests with vigour and without the pressures of artificial competition," the Governor, in a letter, said.
A Class XI student, Shinjini suffered partial paralysis following alleged public humiliation by judges at a reality dance show on May 19 aired on a Bengali private television channel and has lost her speech and movement of her limbs.
Till a month ago, however, she had been participating in teleserial shoots and even appeared in a Bengali film.
Eventhough her parents have blamed the judges for Shinjini's illness, doctors have diagnosed her condition as myeloencephalitis, an inflammation of both the spinal cord and the brain.
