Under his father’s guidance, the boy has been practicing how to write a cheque for the last couple of days, before finally writing one at Mother House. He handed it over to Sister Prema, current superior general of Missionaries of Charity, on Monday.

“I asked him to practice at home so he could do it perfectly at the actual even on August 27,” said Gora Mukherjee, Akash’s father.

Early this year the Class 5 student was signed for a lead role in the Bengal film, which has been directed by Rajesh Dutta and Ipshita Ray Sarkar, and produced by Stell Media and Entertainment. The boy shared screen space with eminent actors like Soumitra Chatterjee, Dipankar Dey and Kushal Chakraborty.

“When I was in Class 1 I went to Nirmal Hriday for the first time with my parents on my fifth birthday. I was very happy to be there among the children and shared my toys, books, clothes and food with them. I was very excited. It was a touching and wonderful experience for me. I have been visiting Mother Home on my birthdays ever since, and spend quality time with the children,” said Akash.

“He has made some close association with the children at Mother House since he’s been visiting them on every birthday. I told him that it’s beautiful to feel the joy of giving,” said Gora Mukherjee.

Needless to say, Akash’s family is extremely happy and proud of their son for taking this noble decision. “Just a few days ago I learnt that I would get some money for the film that I did. That’s when I decided to share the amount with the children at Mother House as they don’t stay with their parents and grandparents like me. My parents are happy with my decision,” said Akash.

Mother Teresa’s 103rd birthday was celebrated on August 27, the day she was baptised, and incidentally Akash’s birthday is also on August 27.
