Rizwanur Rehman may have committed suicide, a CBI source said on Saturday after sleuths visited the spot where his body was found.
The seven-member CBI team led by joint director, special crime cell, Arun Kumar and a forensic expert examined the area near the rail tracks where Rizwanur was found. A doctor from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences accompanied them. The officers conducted mock drills.
“It’s too early to comment, but seems like a case of suicide,” the CBI source said.
After staying there for more than hour, the team went to Bhawani Bhawan and collected the CID’s findings related to the case. “We have started a case on the basis of a petition that Rizwanur’s family filed in high court. A copy of the FIR has been submitted before the magistrate in the Barrackpore court,” said one of the officers.
In the next couple of days the CBI plans to question Ashok Todi, Rizwanur’s father-in-law, his family and all the policemen who allegedly harassed the youth.
“The most important person whom the CID didn’t examine is Rizwanur’s aunt Munni. A day before Rizwanur’s body was found along the railway track, he spent a night at Munni’s place,” another CBI source said.
In the evening the team went to Rizwanur’s house and quizzed his brother Rukbanur and mother Kishwar Jahan.
“Sir, it is a case of murder and we want justice. We have full faith in you,” Rukbanur told Arun Kumar.
Rizwanur’s body was found by railway tracks at Patipukur in Dum Dum on the outskirts of Kolkata on September 21.
The 30-year-old computer graphics designer had married Todi’s daughter Priyanka on August 21 against the wishes of her family.
