Lok Sabha elections 2019- Amit Shah launches campaign in Delhi, rakes up Balakot; takes on Delhi CM

Addressing a rally at a DDA Park in South Delhi’s upscale Vasant Kunj area, Shah urged Delhiites to vote for national security instead of voting for the works done by the seven sitting BJP MPs or the money spent by the Centre on Delhi’s development.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on Wednesday, launching the party’s campaign for the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, asked residents to vote for national security in the upcoming polls.

Shah criticised Congress chairperson Rahul Gandhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal for questioning the Balakot air strike, supporting Article 370, which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and opposing the Modi government’s national register of citizens (NRC), which is aimed at removing infiltrators from the country.

Addressing a rally at a DDA Park in South Delhi’s upscale Vasant Kunj area, Shah urged Delhiites to vote for national security instead of voting for the works done by the seven sitting BJP MPs or the money spent by the Centre on Delhi’s development. In his 30-minute speech, the BJP leader also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the United Nations declaring Pakistan-based terrorist Masood Azhar a ‘global terrorist’.

“Recently, in Pulwama, Pakistan-based terrorists killed 40 of our soldiers. There was anger and disappointment all over the country. Pakistan also immediately deployed their army at the border. But our Modi ji also showed the strength of his 56-inch chest and deployed the air force instead. We bombed the terror camps in Pakistan and killed all the terrorists,” he told the audience, which mostly comprised of BJP workers and supporters.

“That day (the day of the air strikes), everyone in the country was celebrating, but only two people were mourning — one was Rahul Gandhi’s office and the second was the office of the Delhi chief minister… Kejriwal’s party questioned the air strike by asking for proof that terrorists were actually killed. Even children have learnt that you just need to switch on any Pakistani television channel to see their reaction,” Shah said.

Delhi goes to poll on May 12 and the results are scheduled for May 23. While both the BJP and the Congress have fielded their heavyweights, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has put up new faces for all seven seats.

Referring to the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) sedition case, Shah attacked Delhi CM Kejriwal by saying that the AAP leader has created a strange kind environment in the country. “The country will not forgive this. Do you think anyone should support the tukde-tukde gang? Can Rahul baba and Kejriwal keep India safe?” he said.

Listing out the works carried out by the Central government in Delhi, Shah said the Modi government has spent about 1 lakh crore for infrastructure works in Delhi, spanning from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

“When we identified 40 lakh illegal immigrants in Assam, Rahul baba and Kejriwal and company were creating a brouhaha, claiming it was a violation of human rights. They are just worried about their vote banks. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, we will throw away illegal immigrants from the country,” Shah said, referring to Kejriwal as a master of U-turns.

“First, he said he was Anna’s soldier. But, Anna is stuck in Ralegan Siddhi while Kejriwal is busy with politics. He swore on his children that he won’t take a government facility. But, he is enjoying all services. He had talked of putting Sheila Dikshit behind bars for corruption, but despite her refusal for an alliance, Kejriwal desperately went to her to find a solution,” he said.

The AAP and the Congress were not available for comments.
