“The ruling party has uploaded over 22,000 new voter applications via the online system. Valid residential proof documents have not been submitted along with respective applications, as per our information. We will have to stage strong protests if the election officer does not act immediately,” BSP leader Lakhmi Singh said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress and smaller parties are yet to name their candidates.

As per the election schedule, the last date for filing nominations is March 25 and March 28 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Polling day is April 11 and results will come May 23.

“It is not possible to cross-verify the documents submitted in over 22,000 applications in such a short span of time. Therefore, we demand these applicants be rejected immediately,” the BSP chief for the district said.

The district administration, meanwhile, said it was busy in election work and that it would act as per law.

“We will act in accordance with the law. We will follow all laid down procedures in dealing with such applications,” BN Singh, district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar, said.

The BJP’s GB Nagar unit rejected the allegations. “All allegations of the BSP with regard to fake votes are false. We are not at all trying to make fake votes. BSP is making false allegations,” Vijay Bhati, leader, BJP’s Gautam Budh Nagar unit, said.
