Lok Sabha elections 2019: Notification for 91 seats for first phase to be issued on Monday

The formal process for holding the Lok Sabha elections will begin tomorrow after the notification is issued for 91 seats that will vote in the first phase. The notification for the assembly elections of Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Sikkim will also come on March 18.

The formal process for holding the Lok Sabha elections will begin on Monday morning immediately after the notification is issued for 91 seats that will vote in the first phase. Voting for the first phase of the seven-phase election will be held on April 11.

Apart from this, the notification for all assembly seats of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim assemblies and 28 out of the 147 seats in Odisha will be issued on Monday.

The candidates will be able to fill the nomination papers from Monday onwards after the notification is issued. The final date for filing of nomination papers for the 91 seats across 20 states and UTs in this phase is March 25.

This time voting for the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases. Voting for the first phase will be held on April 11.

The nomination papers will be scrutinised on March 26. Candidates can withdraw their names until March 28. Counting for all seven phases will be on May 23.

In the first phase, all 25 seats of Andhra Pradesh, eight of Uttar Pradesh, seven in Maharashtra, five each in Assam and Uttarakhand, four each in Bihar and Odisha will go to polls.

Two seats from Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir will also go to vote in the first phase along with one seat each from Andaman and Nicobar islands and Ladakh.

All the 175 Assembly seats in the Andhra Pradesh assembly, 60 of Arunachal Pradesh, 32 of Sikkim and 28 of Odisha’s 28 assembly seats will also cast their vote in the first phase on April 11. Notifications for the assembly polls will also be issued on March 18 and other election programs will be in line with the first phase of Lok Sabha seats.

The Chief Election Commissioner had announced the elections on March 10, bringing into immediate effect the Model Code of Conduct across the country. The second phase will be held on April 18, the third phase on April 23, the fourth phase on April 29, the fifth phase on May 6, the sixth phase on May 12 and the seventh phase on May 19 with counting being held on May 23.
