Surendra Narayan Singh’s comment came after BSP chief Mayawati took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he lived a royal life but marketed himself as ‘chaiwala’ and ‘chowkidar’.

Making a sexist remark against BSP president Mayawati, BJP MLA Surendra Narayan Singh on Tuesday said the former UP chief minister got a facial done everyday and coloured her hair to look young.

Singh’s comment came after the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he lived a royal life but marketed himself as ‘chaiwala’ and ‘chowkidar’.

Singh has made several controversial remarks earlier too.

“Mayawati gets facial done every day. She has no right to say anything about our leaders. Her hair have turned grey but she colours them to look young. She has turned 60 but still her hair are black,” Singh said here in Lucknow.

He said wearing clean clothes could not be referred as a ‘shaukeen’ (royal habits).

“Wearing clothes is not being ‘shaukeen’. Colouring hair at the age of 60 to look young is ‘shaukeen’,” Singh said.

When contacted, senior BSP leaders refused to comment on the matter.

Earlier, Mayawati had tweeted, “The person who lives life in a royal manner, against the principle of simple living and high thinking, advertised himself as a ‘chaiwallah’ in the last Lok Sabha elections for the sake of votes. Now he is declaring himself as ‘chowkidar’ with pomp and show for votes. The country is really changing?”

To further the PM’s narrative on graft, the BJP launched #MainBhiChowkidar campaign on Saturday after which all the ministers and BJP leaders have added the prefix ‘chowkidar’ to their twitter profile.

Singh had stirred a controversy in July last year by saying that even Lord Ram would not be able to check incidents of rape.

He had also landed in a soup by saying that “prostitutes are better than government staff”.

Singh had also come out openly in support of BJP MLA from Unnao Kuldeep Singh Sengar, accused of raping a minor girl.
