Pro-quota activists end stir

After two-days of violent agitation, hundreds of proreservation students postponed the stir at Samajwadi Party (SP) district office at Balson Crossing late on Sunday after DM Raj Shekhar told them that the chief minister had agreed to meet them on July 31.

However, the demonstrators led by Dinesh Yadav among other leaders continue to insist on meeting the CM on Tuesday.

Even after the assurances from the administration, the students have decided to march to Lucknow on Monday.

The supporters of reservation, majority of who are primary members of the party, kept the local SP leaders, police and district administration here on their toes for two-days (Saturday and Sunday) after the decision of state government to withdraw reservation policy adopted by UPPSC and quashing of results of PCS (mains)-2011 on July 26.

The student leaders termed revoking of the decision on reservation as ‘betrayal’ and an attempt to appease the ‘dominating castes’.

After the talk, the students took out a candle light procession from the party office at George Town to KPUC hostel.

“At present, the CM is not in Lucknow so it was decided to fix the meeting on July 31. But the agitators insisted to meet him on July 30. We have left them on their own will as these young leaders have gone out of control,” said SP district unit president Pandhari Yadav.

Dinesh Yadav, student leader said, “We will not compromise on the issue which is associated with the future of students. All the students will march to Lucknow on Monday itself.”

The UPPSC had implemented the new policy with effect from May 27, 2013, which witnessed massive demonstration by thousands of anti-quota protestors.
