Rana and his supporters were visiting Rajneesh Kumar Singh at Lohgarh village as part of a Dalit outreach programme. A controversy broke out after reports suggested that the food served to Rana and his supporters was ordered from a nearby eatery, and not home-cooked.

Rana admitted that the food was not prepared at Rajneesh’s home, but dismissed the controversy as “meaningless”. “Lohgarh village is dominated by Dalits. The village pradhan and local MLA organised a large scale programme, and as it was impossible for my host’s family to cook for so many people at home, he got it prepared from elsewhere,” he said.

Rajneesh said he had no prior knowledge of Rana’s visit. “The minister and his supporters reached my house around 11 pm. All the food was prepared at a community centre nearby. As the minister was to dine at my house, food was brought from the community centre and served here,” he added.

People familiar with the development said Rana and his supporters were served dal makhni, matar paneer, pulao, tandoori roti, naan and gulab jamun, besides bottled mineral water.
