A Provincial Police Service (PPS) officer in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district was suspended and later arrested for allegedly raping the wife of his orderly at his home, the police said Wednesday.
"An FIR (first information report) in the case was lodged at the city police station late Tuesday night, following which Shivbadan Singh was arrested," police officer N.K. Singh of Nagar Kotwali told IANS.
"Shivbadan Singh's orderly Mahendra Yadav had a land dispute with some of his relatives. He, accompanied by his wife, approached Shivbadan Singh for help. The woman later went to meet Singh along with her nephew on June 6," NK Singh told IANS by telephone.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shakeel Ahmed said: "The victim informed us that Shivbadan Singh sent her nephew out of his home on some pretext and raped her. A rape case was registered. The woman's nephew informed us that he saw Shivbadan Singh misbehaving with her when he returned to that home."
Shivbadan Singh was sent to the district jail soon after the arrest and investigation were on, added Ahmed, the investigating officer of the case.
