Here’s another instance of a remake which is totally uncalled for. The original 2001 South Korean film of the same name had established a cult reputation.

The American version — which evidently inspired Bollywood’s Ugly aur Pagli — labours away to serve a mix-and-match of humour, sentiments and romance.

The outcome turns out to be an exercise in banality.

The plot, for those who came in late, revolves around a nerdy management student (Bradford) and a ditzy blonde (Cuthbert). When she is not drunk, she expects the smitten fellow to carry out all her instructions. The long-drawn-out finale is a cop-out.

In fact, the direction by French helmer Samuell is pedestrian consistently, relying excessively on arty fast-motion shots.

My Sassy Girl never comes close to doing justice to its Korean progenitor.
