After the demolition drive against illegal bars and lodges in Thane, flesh trade seems to have come down on the streets.
The Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) in Thane raided Thane railway station area and arrested 17 women, of which seven are from Bangladesh and have entered illegally in India, for allegedly indulging in flesh trade.
On Tuesday evening, AHTC got a tip off and raided the place outside Thane railway station near platform no. 10, which led to the arrests.
Ravindra Daundkar, senior police inspector from AHTC, said,”The Bangladeshi women neither have any passport nor do they have any proper identity proofs. We are trying to find how they entered India.”
Preliminary investigation revealed that flesh trade near Thane railway station had been going on for the past few weeks. Daundkar added, “Earlier, this business (prostitution) used to be done inside lodges and bars but after the demolition drive it has come out to streets. We are keeping a tap on it and at the same time a complaint has also been also lodged with the Kopri police station under section relevant sections against the arrested women.”
