The impact of the accident was such that the woman was flung almost 5 feet away.
A 22-year-old woman suffered injuries after she was hit by a speeding car on the Thane-Belapur road on Sunday. The car fled the scene of the accident, leaving the injured woman on the busy road.
According to the police, Anusaya More, a resident of Digha, was crossing the road at approximately 7pm when an Innova car heading towards Belapur from Thane, collided into her.
“The impact of the accident was such that the woman was flung almost 5 feet away. She suffered severe injuries to different parts of her body,” said a police officer from Rabale MIDC police station.
A few local residents spotted her lying on the road and rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was kept under observation after being treated.
“We have received the registration number of the car from the CCTV footage. A case under section 279, 337, 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 184 and 134a of the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act has been registered against its driver,” the officer said.
“We are now looking for the driver and hope to arrest him soon. We are also trying to identify if there were other passengers in the car when the accident took place,” another police officer said.
