Enrolment for medical, engineering courses in Maha to start from June 7

Registrations for admissions to medical, engineering and management undergraduate courses in state-run institutes will begin from June 7. While Maharashtra-Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) cell is yet to announce admissions schedule for MBBS and BDS admissions, registrations for all courses will start on the same day, said officials from MH-CET cell.

“For medical and dental admissions, we have to wait for the Central government to decide the schedule for all-India quota seats and accordingly, our admissions schedule will follow. We are awaiting go-ahead from the Centre to release the schedule,” said a senior official. He added registrations will last for at least 10 days before the first provisional merit list is announced.

Last week, state Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) submitted an admissions schedule to MH-CET for its approval. As per this schedule, the first provisional merit list will be released on June 19. “The dates can only be confirmed by MH-CET cell. But registrations will begin soon,” said DR Pravin Shingare, director, DMER.

This year too, 85% of seats in state and private medical and dental institutes will be allotted to those who have either cleared Class 10 and 12 from Maharashtra or those who have cleared only Class 12 from the state, but have a valid domicile (proof of living in the state for 15 years) certificate.

The Supreme Court recently struck down DMER’s decision to make all three requirements mandatory for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses for 2018-19. This means, a student will be eligible if he fits any one of the two criteria. “There are no changes to MBBS and BDS admissions process this year. All information has been shared in the information brochure available on our website,” added Shingare.
