Patrons tuck into grub from kebabs to waffles; jewellery and handicraft stalls see huge footfall, while night ends on a musical note

This year, Cross Maidan is the place to be during the HT Kala Ghoda Arts Festival. There are giant art installations, street performers, music and dance, plus craft and food stalls from all over India. It’s a foodie, culturist and shopaholic heaven.

Taste spicy Kashmiri kebabs, enjoy pizzas and waffles out of food trucks, grab a plate of momos or steaming hot instant noodles — there’s something for everyone here.

Flight attendant Tenzin Shungsang Bhutia, 35, sells momos at festivals and concerts as a hobby. This is her second time at KGAF. From day one, her stall ‘Mo:mo: The Kalimpong Kitchen’, has been a resounding success. “I love coming here. We sold all our momos yesterday, so we stocked more today,” she said.

Nicole Mody, curator of the food section, says this year’s turnout has been amazing. “We decided to promote regional cuisine. Food stalls at Cross Maidan open from 5 pm to 10 pm. A few food stalls opened at 1 pm today and we were surprised to see that they had great footfall.”

Tuheena Raj, a 22-year-old bank employee, came especially to check out the craft stalls with her friends. “I recently shifted here from Delhi and have always wanted to attend KGAF. I examined the costume jewellery and khadi items at the craft stalls, which left me spoilt for choice,” she said.

There was also a crowd in front of the stall run by the Able Disable All People Together (ADAPT), a non government organisation. Manju Thakur, a special educator with the NGO, said, “The cloth bags made by our members are a big hit here. We have been coming to KGAF since its inception and this is the first time we have seen so many people at Cross Maidan.”

The crowd thoroughly enjoyed the musical performances too. Shibani Kashyap enthralled visitors as she took the stage first, followed by Gino Banks, Vinayak Pol and Andrew Kanga. Rahul Sharma’s santoor and vocals, and instrumentals by Indiva wrapped up the show.
