Former Mumbai civic body worker cheats relative of Rs17 lakh, arrested
Khedaskar is a resident of Prabhadevi and was a bead operator with the BMC, who had got the job after his father’s death.
The Tardeo police, on Friday, arrested a 28-year-old former worker of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for cheating his paternal uncle of ₹17 lakh on the pretext of giving his son a job in the BMC. The police were in search of the accused, Pravin Ramesh Khedaskar, for the past three months.
Khedaskar is a resident of Prabhadevi and was a bead operator with the BMC, who had got the job after his father’s death. The complainant Rakesh Shirke had registered a case against him in May 2017.
Khedaskar had given false assurances to Shirke that he would get his son a job with BMC.
“In seven months, Pravin took almost ₹17 lakh from Shirke citing various reasons to get his son the job. He spent most of the money on alcohol,” said Sanjay Surve, senior police inspector, Tardeo police station.
“After Shirke’s complaint, we registered a case under section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the IPC. We began investigation immediately as he was absconding after the incident,” added Surve.
Khedaskar, who had separated from his wife, was suspended from his job after news of him cheating spread across.
“On Friday, we got a confirmation about Khedaskar coming to meet his family. We laid a trap and arrested him. He will be produced in court on Saturday. Further investigations are on in the case,” said Sandeep Khandagale, police sub-inspector, Tardeo.
