The licences required from the BMC to start a new business are now available through a common online application on the civic body’s website

Taking one step closer to making its ease of doing business policy a reality, the civic body has now introduced an online single window system to issue permissions for new businesses and factories. Henceforth, all new business permissions will be available through the online portal and the BMC will stop accepting physical applications, said civic officials.

The system will make it simpler to get up to nine permissions online, and will also display real-time status of the application, from all the departments handling the request.

The system has been started on a trial basis between October 17 and 30. It will be fully operational from October 31. The system will make it simpler to get up to nine permissions online, and will also display real-time status of the application, from all the departments handling the request. If this works, the civic body won’t be accepting any physical forms to set up businesses and factories in Mumbai.

A senior civic official said, “Municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta committed to bring ease in doing business in the city, way back in 2015. Following this, several application procedures have come online in the past two years, including permissions related to shops and establishments department, and those related to health certificates given to eateries across the city. The latest one applies to businesses and factories.”

The licences required from the BMC to start a new business are now available through a common online application on the civic body’s website. The common link on the website will provide access to applications for shops and establishment registration, health licence, trade licence, neon sign board licence and a factory permit. A no-objection certificate from the fire brigade has also been included in this list. Applicants will not have to interact with officials, which will considerably reduce corruption, the senior civic official said.

The realtime interactive online module will allow uploading scanned documents that need to be submitted along with the application form, remarks from the department concerned on a registered mobile and email, online payment of fees and an intimation on email regarding the status of the application. Once the application is cleared from all departments, its copy will also be available online.
