Pawar then got off the two-wheeler, parked it, and started following the woman. He then sneaked up behind her and pulled her pants. Shocked, the woman asked him what he was doing, but Pawar came in front of her and began touching her inappropriately.

The woman started screaming for help and people on the road rushed to help her. The accused tried to beat up the people, but ran away. A person called up the police control room after which a patrolling jeep was diverted to the spot. Pawar was nabbed and then arrested.

An FIR has been registered against him under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code. The police have recorded the statement of the woman and will be recording statements of some witnesses.

The police said Pawar, a resident of Malwani, was not in an inebriated condition when the incident took place. Senior inspector of Charkop police station, Pramod Dhaware, said further investigations are on to find out if Pawar has a criminal record. “The accused has been sent to judicial custody.” He will remain in jail till the court grants him bail.
