The complainant, Kishore Gangar, 65, alleged that an agreement was made between him and Savla in 2005 to construct a commercial building in Borivli. Savla allegedly promised Gangar his profit share and also gave him an allotment letter of shop number one in the building. However, after the building was ready, shop number one was sold to someone else. Although Gangar was given shop number three, he did not get an allotment letter, said a police officer.

After Gangar rented out shop number three, a few people showed up there and threatened the occupants to vacate the shop as it was not owned by Gangar, added the official. The complainant claimed that Savla demanded Rs5 crore from him before giving him the allotment letter of the shop.

Gangar then registered a complaint with unit 11 of the Mumbai crime branch against Savla and others who threatened his tenant.

A case was registered under section 384 (extortion), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against Savla and others. “We have been checking all the legal papers which were made between Gangar and Savla and the financial transactions between them. The agreement was made between a firm and Gangar so we will verify whether the firm belongs to Savla or he is a partner, added the official.
